Our library is a cornerstone of academic life here at Centennial. By providing a safe, welcoming, and inviting atmosphere, the library helps our student body engage with high-quality educational, historical, and news resources - as well as a robust selection of high-interest fiction - and encourages free and unlimited inquiry and exploration.

As a gathering place for multiple classes experiencing collaborative learning and the wealth of knowledge of community resources and an ideal location for student, faculty, parent, district, and community organizations, the library fosters connection and outreach in ways that benefit everyone.

The mission of Centennial High School’s Library Media Center is to facilitate student learning and to support the students and faculty by providing a wide range of resources for student success.

What We Offer and How We Help

We assist students, faculty, and staff to promote critical thinking and lifelong learning for all our patrons.

We endeavor to foster a love of reading for a variety of purposes and engage in continuous research and updates of our collection.

We partner with faculty to teach information literacy skills in the following ways:

Selection and organization of materials for relevant, contemporary research projects
Guidance in location and selection of appropriate materials for academic projects
Training and facilitation of information literacy skills
Maintenance and development of the library's print, electronic, and multimedia collection to represent current, authoritative information as well as appropriate, high interest materials for pleasure reading
Collaboration with faculty in planning and implementation of lessons, incorporating technology whenever possible
Distribution, maintenance, and collection of textbooks and technology equipment

Our Policies

Students leaving a study hall or class to use the library must bring a pass including the following information to the circulation desk: student name, teacher name, sign out date and time, and teacher signature.
Students must sign in to create a roster that will be used in the event of an emergency.
Once in the library, students are expected to work quietly on a specific academic project and should sign out and promptly return to class when they have achieved their purpose.
Students using the library will follow all behavioral and internet use guidelines as outlined in the student handbook
Students using the library will follow verbal instructions in case of an emergency.
Students using the library may not bring food or drink into the library or library lab.

Follett Destiny - This portal allows you access to Centennial's online library management system. Here, you can research what our collection and check out materials.

Tennessee Electronic Library - This site is excellent for your research because it provides you with free to over 400,000 electronic resources including magazines, scholarly journals, podcasts, videos, e-books, test preparation materials, federal census records, and Tennessee primary source materials. If you need search tips, just ask! We can show you how to optimize your use of this site.

JStor - If you thought TEL was great, wait until you see this! This site provides you with free access to over 12 million academic journal articles, books, and primary sources in over 75 different disciplines!

Gale Databases - You can access vetted (credible) and current information from this site's wide variety of subject area databases.

Salem Press Online - You can use this database to find information on literature, history, science, health, and careers.

Mackin eBooks - This site allows you easy access to eBooks, read-alongs, audiobooks, databases, videos and more.

Sora - Sora is an easy way for students to read ebooks and audiobooks. It can also be found on the Classlink dashboard.

Tennessee State Library and Archives - The Tennessee State Library and Archives collects and preserves books and records of historical, documentary and reference value, and promotes library and archival development throughout the state.
